WHO SAID FRUIT CAN ONLY BE SWEET?
The avocado, the Fruit of Life, comes from the American Persea tree. However, it is very different from other fruits, as its sugar and water contents are quite low. On the other hand, we find higher levels of dietary fibre, carbohydrates and fatty acids, which make it a particularly special nourishment.
WHERE DOES IT GROW?
The versatility of the avocado knows no borders and proof of this is that nowadays we can find it anywhere, 365 days a year.
Avocados grow best in tropical climates, avoiding the wind and frost that hinder their healthy growth.
HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT AVOCADO?
Here we offer some foolproof tricks to enjoy the Fruit of Life
HOLD THE AVOCADO WITH BOTH
HANDS AND PRESS IT SOFTLY
Is it slightly soft?
It's just ripe and perfect to eat!
NOTICE THE STEM LOCATED AT THE
TOP
If it comes off easily when you touch it,
the avocado is ripe and ready to eat!
THE COLOUR NEVER LIES!
Light green: hard to the touch. It's underripe and still needs some time
Dark green: a little hard to the touch, but you can feel some soft parts. It's almost there, but it's still not at its best
Dark brown: soft to the touch, but not squishy. This avocado is ready to be eaten
HOW TO STORE THEM?
TO SPEED UP RIPENING
Keep the avocado at room temperature, preferably in a brown paper bag with other fruits, such as apples and bananas, so they accelerate the ripening process.
ONCE CUT OPEN
Drizzle lemon or lime juice or vinegar to prevent oxidation.
Store in an airtight container or wrap in cling film in the refrigerator.
